In 1950, Viña del Mar (Chile) witnesses the start up of Sintex, a company originally devoted to the manufacturing of sodium formate, acid and chemical auxiliaries used in the textile and tannery industry.
In 1955, it founds along with Farmoquímica del Pacífico its first subsidiary, Oxiquim, which starts operations in the industrial area of El Salto (Viña del Mar) and it is still operative, manufacturing and commercializing acetaldehyde and acetic acid.
Before the 50’s end, Oxiquim inaugurates its first formaldehyde plant; this product is in constant development, through the Formaldehyde and Derivatives Business Unit.
During the 60’s, Sintex starts the production of another of its traditional manufactured goods by starting up a Molding Compounds Plant.
The successful development of Sintex during the 60’s, allows founding Oxiquim do Brasil (Sao Paulo) in 1974; this company is oriented to the commercialization of chemical products in that country.
By the end of the 70’s, Sintex transferred all its industrial and commercial activities to Oxiquim, assuming the roll of "holding" or investment group. At the same time, it acquires the shares of Oxiquim from Farmoquímica del Pacífico, gaining full ownership over it.
1980 begins with the transformation of Oxiquim into a Limited Liability Company, keeping Sintex 100% of the shares.
During the same decade Oxiquim enters the Maritime Terminals Business, oriented to the load, unload and storage of chemical products by inaugurating its first Terminal in Quintero Bay (V Region). Later on, a second Terminal is set up in Coronel (VIII Region) in 1995.
The development strategy started by Sintex in the 1970 decade, was used again by Oxiquim during the 90’s by setting up a series of branches in Latin America:
